Check this out! Thresholds in Chicago has acquired The Glenn Apartments, preserving an important SRO!
SROs are affordable “single room occupancy” units for the homeless and others.
.
Boy, this is great news for the Uptown neighborhood which needs a great deal of housing for homeless people. The former alderman of Uptown dismantled and disapproved facilities for the homeless as part of his legacy.
StreetSense has heard that this plan will help 100 persons and shore up the services and facilities for those unkeyed individuals who deserve a break.
Thresholds has stepped up in their continuing service to persons at risk of experiencing housing insecurity. BTW, “Thresholds provides services and resources for persons with serious mental illnesses and substance use conditions in Illinois.”
Founded in 1959, their staff “Work with many populations, including youth and young adults, veterans, young mothers, deaf, and individuals experiencing homelessness, among others.
This plan helps save 100 SRO units, “including permanent housing for 61 current Thresholds clients.” Clients may remain in their rooms while updates are done on other units… meaning they will be allowed to stay and not be out on the street.
This is a great plan indeed!
According to their website, “Last year, Thresholds served more than 12,500 adults and youth, with 75% of services delivered out in the community, representing more than 500,000 hours of care.”
