Some good questions about Gov. Newsom’s lack of decisiveness
*This article “California's homeless crisis could be Gavin Newsom's political albatross” makes it clear voters will not forget his handling of the situation.
On the one hand, as mentioned in the article, the governor has tried to show compassion for the unhoused. “He suggested local leaders establish programs and systems to help unhoused residents find shelter, mental health services and drug treatment centers.”
On the other hand, he insisted people camping outdoors get off the streets after three days—a clear bow to wealthy California business and home owners—who carry a lot of clout. He has deferred to that group. But is a Democrat—devoted to sanctuary policies.
So as the article states, it is very difficult to figure out just where he stands on homeless issues… and why the fourth-largest economy in the world has so many thousands of unhoused people living on the streets, in tents, in cars, and in old RVs.
Can he be a fiscally-responsible—and decisive—president—if he cannot fix this broken part of the California population? How many unhoused persons are there, in that extremely wealthy US state? Why are there so many unhoused persons in that state? Isn’t there money everywhere? Some interesting questions….
